Flannelboard Friday: Counting in the Garden

I always try to have something visual to involve the toddlers in storytime. A lot of times I will create clip art flannelboards for the toddlers to put on the board while I am reading a book. I use the clip art because I have to have enough copies for the toddlers (at least 15) and then extras for attending siblings. I am going to use this flannelboard for my butterfly storytime next week with the book Counting in the Garden by Kim Parker. When I get to each animal or insect, the child with that picture and number will put it on the board. Here is the pdf if anyone would like to use the images.

  1. Oooh, I don't know this book. I will have to try it out with our kids at storytime. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I am trying this! I copied the link for the pdf, and then forgot which book they were from. But thanks to those lovely hunting skills they teach us in library school, I found it again! Thanks for this great idea! My storytimes always have at least 20 kids and I couldn't figure out a way to involve them all in flannel activities, until now!

    1. Glad I could help. I include a flannel board activity where the kids bring matching clipart to the board at the end every week now because it is so successful. It is useful to just keep clipart pieces on hand for common animals and vehicles so you can just keep reusing them for different books and rhymes.
