Flannel Friday: Goldilocks & the Three Bears Hand Puppets

My post this week is in preparation for the annual Early Literacy Fair at our library. This is a program where kids ages 0 - 5 years can come to our library to do games and activities with a caregiver. There are seven or eight stations and a craft set up around the whole library. Each station focuses on developing a different early literacy skill with your child. There are games and activities for babies, toddlers and preschoolers at each station. Most of the games and activities are things parents can replicate at home with (cheap) craft supplies, things found around the house or in the recycle bin. So, I am in the middle of planning and creating all the activities.

This week I made felt puppets that fit a child's hand. I wish they were bigger because I want the adults to use them too to tell their child stories, but they are just going to have to make do because I don't have time to make them over again. So, keep in mind if you want to make these puppets, that you will need to make your pattern a little bigger for an adult.

I want the puppets to hold up to use. We get over 370 people attending this four hour, drop in program so these puppets need to be as sturdy as possible. I glued all the pieces together with quick dry craft glue and then I sewed them all together with clear thread on the sewing machine. I used puff paint for the face details.

I got my bear pattern from Style Me Pretty. There are some really cute templates for a couple of other animals too. I added my own embellishments. 

       

 I looked at templates for the Goldilocks pattern (person hand puppet patterns) on Google Images. Nothing seemed right, so I made my own- Goldilocks Puppet Pattern1 and Goldilocks Puppet Pattern2.

I was super bummed that I smeared the red puff paint on Goldilocks, but, like I said, I don't have time to redo the puppets. I am just going to have to live with it and the knowledge that the kids are going to have fun with them despite the smeared paint.
