Flannel Friday: Five Little Cookies

This is my flannel board version of the rhyme Five Little Cookies. I got this rhyme from Miss Mollie's What Happens in Storytime... blog. She includes a link to Mel's Desk on her blog post for Melissa's version of the rhyme. My sugar cookies look more like Melissa's cookies, but I actually used this picture of felt cookies from flikr for my cookie decorating inspiration.

Because I do a toddler storytime, I can't manage having 15+ little ones coming up to the board to take the cookies. Everyone would get too bored waiting for their turn and they all would have to have a turn. So, I added animals to my rhyme and made stick puppets from cute clipart I found in Microsoft Clipart and on Google Images. I also decided to have the animals carry a nickel (with Velcro) and then I could stick the cookie to each animal to take away after they leave their coin.

Five Little Cookies
Five little cookies at the bakery shop,
Shining bright with sugar on top.
Along came a DOG with a nickel to pay,
He buys one and takes it away.

Four little cookies... Along comes a DINOSAUR...
Three little cookies... Along comes an ELEPHANT...
Two little cookies... Along comes a TURTLE...
One little cookie... Along comes a MONKEY...

 

Flannel Friday: Baa Baa Shape Sheep

I got this idea from Making Learning Fun and I had a volunteer make it for me so she could make enough bags of wool to hand out to all the kids who attend toddler storytime. Before we sing the song, I hand out the shape bags to the kids. Then after singing the song for each shape, the kids bring the bag to the board to match the shape on the sheep.

Baa Baa Shape Sheep
Baa, baa circle sheep have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.
One for my master, one for the dame, one for the little boy who lives down the lane.
Baa, baa circle sheep have you any wool?
Yes sir, yes sir, three bags full.
(kids with circles on their bags of wool bring them to the board before we sing about the next shape)

Flannel Friday: Gingerbread Man

I used the stick puppet template from MakingLearningFun to do this flannel board. I printed off the outlines and then enlarged them on the photocopier to 125% so they would be the size I wanted. I used felt and then puff paint to add the outlines and detail. I am going to use this flannel board for a cookie storytime with the toddlers later in the year.

To "read" the story to the group, I enlarged the sequencing cards from Daycare Resource Connection, printed them on cardstock and laminated them. I will use both the sequencing cards and the felt figures to tell the story to the group.

I want to make a gingerbread man
to keep me company.

 

"Run, run, run fast as you can.
You can't catch me!
I'm the gingerbread man!"

"You look very good to eat!"

"Run as fast as you can little pig.

"I'm so hungry after working in the field.

Flannel Friday: Penguin Finger Puppets

I am going to do a penguin storytime for the toddlers later in the year. I got this adorable rhyme from Storytime Katie's penguin storytime. I decided I needed two penguin finger puppets to go with it. I did a Google Image search for "felt penguin finger puppets" and found the perfect set with a free pattern online. Yay! These are quick and easy to make, so I made these puppets at home for my niece's second birthday and bought her Emma Dodd's I am Small to go with the rhyme and puppets.

Two Little Penguins
Two little penguins sitting on ice. (hold up two fingers)
One bows once, the other bows twice. (make fingers bow)
Waddle little penguins. Waddle away. (put fingers behind back)
Come back penguins. Time to play! (bring fingers to front)
